El ambiente: Tema o eje en el programa museológico

    La Cumbre de Museos de América, “Museos y Comunidades Sostenibles”, de 1998 donde Costa Rica asiste, los participantes asumieron el compromiso de velar por que sus instituciones sean constructoras de herramientas para la sostenibilidad de sus comunidades. Trece años más tarde, el Programa de Patrimonio, Desarrollo y Sociedad, de la Escuela de Sociología, llevó a cabo una investigación con el fin de indagar los avances de tres museos de Costa Rica (Museo Nacional, Museo de Arte Costarricense y Museo del Banco Central) para cumplir con este compromiso, basándose en 4 ejes: medio ambiente, género, accesibilidad y grupos marginales. En este artículo exploramos, cómo estos museos han incorporado el eje del medio ambiente en su trabajo, tratando de determinar qué acciones se han desarrollado en esta área y en qué medida. Los tres museos han llevado a cabo diferentes actividades en este eje, como: exposiciones, mejores prácticas ambientales, etc., Sin embargo, ninguna de ellas, son en respuesta a unas políticas institucionales, que permiten un trabajo sistemático, por lo que es necesario, que los museos desarrollen no sólo acciones o actividades sino políticas que permiten un trabajo más sistemático en este eje.

    The Museums Summit of America, “Museums and Sustainable Communities”, held Costa Rica, back in 1998, participants assumed the commitment of making of becoming these institutions in tools for building the sustainability of their communities. Thirteen years later, the Program of Heritage, Development and Society, from the School of Sociology, carried out a research trying to find out, what have done three Costa Rican’s museums (National Museum, Museum of Costarrican Art and Museums of the Central Bank) to fulfill this commitment. Incorporating in their day a day work, four axes: environment, gender, accessibility and marginal groups.  In this paper we explore, how these museums have incorporated the environmental axis in their work, trying to determine what actions have been developed in this area, and to what extent. The results are that no matter, all three museums have being carrying out different activities into this axis, like: exhibitions, better environmental practices, etc., none of them, are in response to a institutional policies, which allow a systematical work, in this axis, for what it is needed, that museums develop not only actions or activities in this area, but policies which allow a more systematic work into this axis.
