  • ABSTRACT A new taxonomic status is proposed for the fern Hymenophyllum ferrugineum, for which two subspecies are recognized based on morphological and biogeography data. One subspecies is recognized as endemic to Juan Fernandez Archipelago and the other endemic to southern South America. It is also clarified the relationship with Hymenophyllum frankliniae, the morphologically closest species native from New Zealand.
