    La ciudad es el lugar donde las personas viven y construyen su historia. En este artículo tratamos con Curitiba, ciudad brasileña de 1,8 millones de habitantes, que, como cualquier gran urbe, sufre con los problemas de la rápida expansión urbana, pero se destaca por su innovación, sorprende por su creatividad, se reinventa en las soluciones de sus problemas, se recicla al moldearse a su dinámica y preserva su historia para poder construir su futuro. Conocida como una ciudad sostenible, cuyo principio fundamental se basa en el respeto al medio ambiente y a la escala humana. Este artículo tiene la intención de mostrar que las ciudades son viables y no necesitan, como muchos creen, soluciones extravagantes y onerosas. Desde esta mirada positiva describimos los eficaces instrumentos de planeamiento urbanístico aplicados en Curitiba. La intención es que estas experiencias puedan ser conocidas y servir como incentivo para que otras ciudades encuentren sus propias soluciones.

    The city is the place where people live and build their history. In this article we deal with Curitiba, brazilian city of 1.8 million inhabitants, that, like any large urban place suffers with problems of rapid urban expansion, but stands out for innovation, impresses for its creativity, reinvents solutions for its problems, recycles itself when modeling its dynamics and preserves its history so it can build its future. Known as a sustainable city whose fundamental principle is based on the respect for the environment at a human scale. This article has the intention of showing that cities and viable and don’t need, as many believe, extravagant or expensive solutions. From this stand point we describe the effective instruments for urban planning applied to Curitiba. The intention is no to solve the urban problems of any city, but to let these experiences be known as an incentive for finding their own solutions.
