Resumen de Desde la retaguardia: Las cuevas-refugio de Valdepeñas(Ciudad Real)

En algunas ocasiones sucede que obras o construcciones realizadas por el ser humano con una finalidadconcreta terminan siendo utilizadas para otras funciones muy distintas para las que fueron creadas. Estees el caso de las cuevas de Valdepeñas (Ciudad Real), construidas con el propósito exclusivo de quesirvieran para almacenar y conservar el vino y, sin embargo, en épocas de guerra como la ocupaciónfrancesa y en plena Guerra Civil española fueron utilizadas como refugios para proteger a la poblacióncivil.Este trabajo pone de manifiesto esta otra funcionalidad de unas cuevas centenarias como cuevas-refugio,en un contexto bélico, y pretende arrojar un poco más de luz sobre estas construcciones subterráneas,hoy en serio peligro de abandono y degradación, proponiendo su recuperación, como parte que son denuestra historia, como elementos patrimoniales y recursos turísticos que pueden ser plenamenterentables en pleno siglo XXI.

On some occasions it happens that works or constructions made by human beings with a specific purposeend up being used for other functions very different from those for which they were created. This is thecase of the caves of Valdepeñas (Ciudad Real), built with the sole purpose of serving to store andpreserve wine and, however, in times of war such as the French occupation and the Spanish Civil War,they were used as shelters to protect the civilian population.This work highlights this other functionality of some centuries-old caves as refuge-caves, in a warcontext, and aims to shed a little more light on these underground constructions, today in serious dangerof abandonment and degradation, proposing their recovery, as they are part of our history, as heritageelements and tourism resources that can be fully profitable in the 21st century.
