    El objetivo del trabajo es recuperar la información documental que se ha generado sobre la Responsabilidad Social Universitaria con el fin de analizar las aportaciones teóricas y construir el estado del arte a partir de su análisis. La metodología utilizada para este fin corresponde a un estudio cualitativo con la técnica de investigación de análisis documental. En el artículo se describen argumentos fundantes del origen y evolución del término, sus principios teóricos y el propósito de ser utilizado en las instituciones de educación superior. El término Responsabilidad Social fue extrapolado a la educación superior con la intención de adoptar sus postulados e integrar las funciones sustantivas a partir de la Responsabilidad Social Universitaria. Derivado de lo anterior, en Latinoamérica y Europa han proliferado activamente los modelos que responden desde diversas perspectivas a la responsabilidad social universitaria, así como diversos organismos de educación a nivel nacional e internacional que han impulsado y estudiado el tema. Sin embargo, y debido al recién acuñado término se han dado diversas vertientes, interpretaciones, enfoques y modelos.

    The objective of this work is to recover the documentary information that has been generated on University Social Responsibility in order to analyze the theoretical contributions and build the state of the art from its analysis. The methodology used for this purpose corresponds to a qualitative study with the documentary analysis research technique. The article describes the founding arguments of the origin and evolution of the term, its theoretical principles and the purpose of its use in higher education institutions. The term Social Responsibility was extrapolated to higher education with the intention of adopting its postulates and integrating the substantive functions from the University Social Responsibility. As a result of the above, in Latin America and Europe there has been an active proliferation of models that respond to university social responsibility from different perspectives, as well as various national and international educational organizations that have promoted and studied the subject. However, and due to the recently coined term, there have been various aspects, interpretations, approaches and models.
