Resumen de 2016 - 2022. KARREVELD: Transformation of a Former Office Building into a Secondary School, Brussels

  En el corazón de un barrio diverso y densamente poblado, dos municipios vecinos han adquirido un antiguo edificio de oficinas para paliar la grave escasez de instalaciones para escuelas secundarias en Bruselas. La fase inicial aborda la urgente transformación de una primera ala en aulas que acojan al creciente número de estudiantes. Aprovechando la estructura de hormigón de planta abierta original del edificio, el diseño reutiliza y adapta el sistema de tabiques modulares livianos presentes en el sitio, mejorando la flexibilidad inherente del espacio y creando una atmósfera informal que fomenta la apropiación. La segunda fase del proyecto amplía esta estrategia, abordando la ampliación del edificio con un pabellón deportivo, un restaurante y más aulas.

  In the heart of a densely populated and diverse neighborhood, two neighboring municipalities have acquired a former office building to alleviate the acute shortage of secondary school facilities in Brussels. The initial phase addresses the urgent transformation of a first wing into classrooms to host the gradually increasing number of students. Capitalizing on the building's original open-plan concrete structure, the design reuses and adapts the system of lightweight, modular partition walls present on site, enhancing the space's inherent flexibility and creating an informal atmosphere that fosters appropriation. The project's second phase expands on this strategy, addressing the extension of the building with a sports hall, a restaurant and more classrooms.
