Estudio retrospectivo de 34 muertes maternas por aborto séptico ocurridas en el Hospital Cayetano Heredia de lIma, Perú, durante el período 1975-1984, con una tasa de mortalidad por aborto séptico de 71.74 por diez mil abortos. La mortalidad por aborto séptico durante el periodo fue el 35.79% de la mortalidad materna total. La edad promedio de las pacientes fue 27.2 años con rango entre 14 y 43 años; el 17.64% fueron menores de 20 años. El promedio de hijos vivos de tres, con un rango entre 0 y 13 hijos. El 50% tenían unión familiar estable y el total de pacientes primigestas no erna casadas. El 52.94% (18/34) procedían de fuera del área de influencia del hospital. El 38.2% (13/34) de las fallecidas por aborto séptico permanecieron menos de 24 horas.

A retrospective study of 34 maternal deaths per septic abortion occurred in the Cayetano Heredia Hospital in Lima, Peru, during the period from 1975 to 1984, with a mortality rate of septic abortion from 71.74 deaths per ten thousand abortions.
