Resumen de Salud LGBTQIA+ en Chile: desde la despatologización institucional hacia la atención reparatoria y afirmativa

  La medicalización histórica de las diversidades sexogenéricas han llevado a patologizar las identidades LGBTQIA+ a través de los años. Con el fin de justificar la patologización de éstas se validan las mal llamadas “terapias de conversión”, una práctica que actualmente está prohibida legalmente pero que se mantiene de manera informal en algunos lugares del mundo. Aún a la fecha se persiste en la lucha por la validación y por vivir en un ambiente afirmativo y libre de violencia, pero no hay que desconocer que el avance en esta temática ha sido progresivo. Prueba de ello es el proceso de despatologización de las diversidades sexogenéricas en la Clasificación Internacional de Enfermedades y otros Problemas de Salud (CIE). Desde allí́, la construcción del manejo en salud mundial y nacional se ha dirigido persistentemente a comprender los determinantes sociales y las necesidades específicas propias de cada comunidad. Si bien el avance ha sido claro, estas temáticas aún no están integradas en las escuelas de salud en Chile, y se mantienen más bien, desde los espacios activistas y por interés personal de profesionales sensibilizados en la materia.

  The historical medicalization of sex-gender diversities has led to the pathologizing of LGBTQIA+ identities over the years. In order to justify their pathologization, the so-called “conversion therapies’’ are validated, a practice that is currently legally prohibited but is maintained informally in some parts of the world. Even to date, the struggle for validation and for living in an affirmative environment free of violence persists, but it must not be ignored that progress on this issue has been progressive. Proof of this is the process of depathologization of sex-generic diversities in the International Classification of Diseases and other Health Problems (ICD). From there, the construction of global and national health management has been persistently aimed at understanding the social determinants and the specific needs of each community. Although progress has been clear, these issues are not yet integrated into health schools in Chile, and are maintained rather, from activist spaces and by personal interest of professionals sensitized in the matter.
