    La posición geográfica de Panamá marcó su participación en el engranaje de un imperio que en tres siglos vivió su máximo esplendor y su decadencia. De la mano de los conquistadores llegó a nuestros territorios la ingeniería y las técnicas de construcción reflejadas en las reales obras, aunque en la mayoría de los casos no podamos apreciarlas por el paso del tiempo o la falta de cuidado y protección. Siguiendo la documentación de archivos, bibliografía y artículos, se ha desarrollado este artículo en el que se busca resumir a través de los hechos más sobresalientes que evidencian que el triángulo Portobelo – San Lorenzo – Panamá fue una arteria protegida que siempre mereció la atención y el trabajo de los más calificados ingenieros militares y mano de obra. Esta ruta fue codiciada por las potencias enemigas, que también realizaron esfuerzos por controlar y fragmentar la estructura y orden establecido.

    The geographical position of Panama marked its participation in the machinery of an empire that in three centuries experienced its maximum splendor and its decline. From the hand of the conquerors, the engineering and construction techniques reflected in the real works came to our territories, although in most cases we cannot appreciate them due to the passage of time or the lack of care and protection. Following the documentation of archives, bibliography and articles, this article has been developed in which it is sought to summarize through the most outstanding facts that show that the Portobelo - San Lorenzo - Panama triangle was a protected artery that always deserved attention and work of the most qualified military engineers and manpower. This route was coveted by the enemy powers, who also made efforts to control and fragment the established structure and order.
