Resumen de Restauro del “Monumento alla Madonna del Fuoco” Piazza del Duomo, Forlí, Italia

Chiara Atanasi Brilli

  • The restoration work on the monument of the Madonna del Fuoco developed from historical research at the State Archives, the Library of Forli and various publications; a metric survey was then carried out thanks to the use of laser scanners, returning a complete two- and threedimensional model; this was followed by a photographic survey campaign, so as to also obtain a series of orthophotos. The survey thus returned was supplemented with the addition of information resulting from electrical tomographic and georadar surveys. The mineralogical-petrographic aspect of the natural stone materials was also investigated and some degradation phenomena were investigated in order to obtain a contribution for mapping. The statue, the work of sculptor Clement Molli, dates back to 1639. A first restoration was carried out in 2002 on a project by arch.

Roberto Pistolesi, who intervened, in particular, by removing the black crusts that were attacking the statue, as well as devoting himself to the cleaning of the entire artifact, an intervention that had, however, little return over time. The present restoration intervention was necessary because the monument was again under biological attack, with widespread presence of mosses and lichens, drippings, patinas, films and rust stains with lesions in the veil covering the Madonna’s head. The intervention, now almost completed, restored the monument to its original splendor
