    La Escuela Latinoamericana de Medicina ha implementado las aulas virtuales por la necesidad de integrar las tecnologías de la información y la comunicación al proceso educativo. El docente debe poseer competencias para desempeñarse en estos entornos. El trabajo tuvo como objetivo analizar los referentes teóricos sobre el desempeño del docente en el aula virtual, para lograr un acercamiento a su definición en este contexto. Se realizó un estudio cualitativo,descriptivo; se empleó la sistematización, el análisis síntesis y la entrevista. Como resultado se obtuvo el análisis sobre el desempeño del docente en el aula virtual y la definición ofrecida por las autoras.

    The Latin American School of Medicine, has implemented virtual classrooms due to the need to integrate information and communication technologies into the educational process. The teacher must have skills to perform in these environments. The objective of the work was to analyze the theoretical references on the performance of the teacher in the virtual classroom, to achieve an approach to its definition in this context. A qualitative, descriptive studywas carried out; systematization, synthesis analysis and interview were used. As a result, the analysis of the teacher's performance in the virtual classroom and the definition offered by the authors was obtained.
