    La biología sintética se encarga de modificar y rediseñar organismos biológicos complejos, según fines benéficos al ser humano. Existe una popular objeción moral a su práctica: la creación de seres vivos es asunto de Dios y no del hu-mano. Dicho argumento popular influencia el proceso de legislación de esta técnica en algún grado, lo cual implica que el tema no está siendo abordado desde una perspectiva bioética laica y, por lo tanto, no garantiza la prevalencia del interés público y la mejora del marco de regulación de la biología sintética. La hipótesis central de este artículo es que el diseño inteligente afecta la forma en que se concibe la biología sintética y, por lo tanto, su legislación.

    Synthetic biology is responsible for modifying and redesigning complex biological organisms for beneficial purposes towards humans, and there is a popular moral objection to its practice: the creation of living beings is God’s business, and not humanity’s. Said popular objection influences the process of legislating this tech-nique to some degree, which implies that the issue is not being addressed from a secular bioethical perspective, and therefore, does not guarantee the prevalence of public interest and the improvement of the regulatory framework of synthetic biology. The central hypothesis of this article is that the Intelligent Design affects the way in which synthetic biology is conceived and, therefore, its legislation.
