Se presenta por vez primera la biografía del ingeniero de minas José Centeno García (1841-1917), cuya vida estuvo marcada por su paso por la Inspección General de Minas de las Islas Filipinas entre 1867 y 1886. A la actividad como jefe de la Inspección de Minas, hay que sumar la investigación geológica y minera que realizó sobre este complejo territorio, en gran medida relacionada con los terremotos, los volcanes y las aguas subterráneas. Entre 1886 y 1888 participó de la política colonial de Filipinas como subdirector de la Dirección de Administración Civil, secretario del Gobierno y también como gobernador civil de Manila.

The biography of the mining engineer José Centeno García (1841-1917) is presented for the first time. He was head of the Bureau of Mines of the Philippine Islands between 1867 and 1888 and to the activity of this responsibility, it must be added the geological and mining research he carried out on this complex territory, largely related to earth-quakes, volcanoes and groundwater, as well as his participation in the Philippine colonial government between 1886 and 1888 as deputy director of the Directorate of Civil Administration, government secretary, and civil governor of Manila.
