El presente escrito tiene por objeto describir una reflexión teórica del poder político en Foucault con respecto a la posición crítica que describe frente a la existencia, pertinencia y necesidad del Estado como entidad política que promueve el bien común. Esta descripción se hace a través de una metodología cualitativa y comparativa que permite mostrar de qué manera Foucault describe y cuestiona el obrar del Estado en tanto realización del espíritu en el mundo moderno. Para lograr este objetivo se expone el desarrollo metodológico y crítico de las nociones de poder y de gubernamentalidad desde donde se concibe y describe la funcionalidad represiva del Estado.

The purpose of this article is to describe a theoretical reflection of political power in Foucault in regards to the critical position it describes regarding the existence, relevance and necessity of the State as a political entity that promotes the common good. This description is made through a qualitative and comparative methodology that allows one to show how Foucault describes and questions the actions of the State as a realization of the spirit in the modern world. In order to accomplish this objective, the methodological and critical development of the notions of power and governmentality is presented, from where the repressive functionality of the State is conceived and described.
