El papel de los rayos X en aquellos casos en que se sospecha maltrato infantil no es solo identificar el grado de lesiones físicas, sino también valorar todos los hallazgos de imagen que apunten hacia un diagnostico diferencial, cuyo objetivo sea el orientar al médico valorador hacia un diagnóstico seguro y evite por un lado errores diagnósticos, logrando con ello poner en evidencia dichos casos de agresión infantil, evitando que se presente en los menores nuevas situaciones de riesgo. Exige al clínico que se enfrenta a un diagnóstico de sospecha de maltrato físico, conocer cuáles son las lesiones más específicas de confirmación diagnóstica, así como cual es la técnica más indicada de acuerdo a la clínica y edad del paciente
