Meta-Síntesis sobre la Experiencia de los Pacientes y sus Familias en la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos

    El objetivo de la investigación fue evaluar los resultados publicados en diferentes estudios científicos sobre la experiencia de los pacientes y sus familias en la Unidades de Cuidados Intensivos entre los años 2013-2023. La metodología utilizada fue una revisión sistemática tipo metasíntesis-cualitativa, siguiendo las pautas establecidas por PRISMA. En este estudio se incluyeron artículos científicos publicados en idioma español, inglés y portugués, estudios cualitativos, teoría fundamentada y estudios fenomenológicos, durante un rango de tiempo específico de 10 años desde el 2013-2023. Se evaluaron 20 artículos científicos que cumplían con los criterios de inclusión y respondían a la pregunta SPIDER. Entre los resultados, se identificó que los pacientes sufren temor, angustia, pérdida de identidad, pérdida de independencia, miedo a la muerte y desconocimiento sobre su enfermedad. En comparación a la familia que experimenta emociones intensas e indirectas como angustia, desilusión, tristeza, esperanza, incertidumbre, tensión e impotencia. Los pacientes destacan que la actitud y la comunicación del personal de salud son factores importantes para sentirse confiados y seguros. La calidad de vida del paciente, así como la de su familia se verán afectadas al ingreso y alta de la UCI.

    The objective of the research was to evaluate the results published in different scientific studies on the experience of patients and their families in Intensive Care Units between the years 2013-2023. The methodology used was a meta-synthesis-qualitative systematic review, following the guidelines established by PRISMA. This study includes scientific articles published in Spanish, English and Portuguese, qualitative studies, grounded theory and phenomenological studies, during a specific time range of 10 years from 2013-2023. 20 scientific articles that met the inclusion criteria and answered the SPIDER question were evaluated. Among the results, it was identified that patients suffer from fear, anguish, loss of identity, loss of independence, fear of death and lack of knowledge about their illness. Compared to the family that experiences intense and indirect emotions such as anguish, disappointment, sadness, hope, uncertainty, tension and helplessness. Patients highlight that the attitude and communication of health personnel are important factors in feeling confident and secure. The quality of life of the patient, as well as that of their family, will be affected upon admission and discharge from the ICU.
