    El Istmo de Panamá en crónicas del siglo XVI es una investigación cuyo objetivo es analizar cómo se describe el choque cultural del europeo con el otro o los otros en los aspectos sociales, culturales, paisajísticos. Pero, ¿por qué volver a las crónicas?, porque estas encubren entre sus páginas el inicio de nuestra literatura y la nueva conformación social y étnica entre el blanco, el indígena y el negro.En la imaginación del europeo, producto de este encuentro con algo totalmente inédito, el Nuevo Mundo, surgieron toda clase de mitos debido a esa geografía ignota, salvaje que los deslumbró.El volver a las crónicas también coadyuvará a realizar un estudio historiográfico de nuestra literatura panameña de la época del descubrimiento y la conquista. Esto permitiría llenar vacíos sobre qué sucedió durante los primeros siglos de dominio español.En esta investigación se analizará y comprenderá cómo el Istmo de Panamá fue, es y será un país globalizado, concepto cuasi nuevo. Aunque, si se mira, retrospectivamente, el Istmo siempre ha sido un país de tránsito-mercantilista de las riquezas de un punto a otro desde la llegada del Almirante Cristóbal Colón. Este es un primer acercamiento a este trabajo, con mayor énfasis en el tema de la llegada del negro a Tierra Firme y su sincretismo sociocultural.

    The Panamanian Isthmus in the sixteenth-century chronicles is a research whose goal is to analyze how is described the clash between the Europeans culture and “the others” in the social, cultural and landscape aspects. But, why go back to chronicles? Because they conceal within its pages the beginning of our literature and the new social and ethnic composition between the white men, the natives and the black men.As a product of this encounter with something completely new, the New World, in the European imagination arose all kind of myths due to this unknown and savage geography which amazed them. Their writings talk about this unique experience.Going back to chronicles will also contribute to the making a historiographical study of our Panamanian literature during the time of discovery and conquest. This would fill some gaps about what happened during the first centuries of Spanish rule.In this research we will analyze and understand how the Panamanian Isthmus has always been a globalized country, quasi-new concept. Although, if we look back, since the arrival of Admiral Christopher Columbus, the Isthmus has always been a country of commercial transit of wealth from one point to another.
