New technical analysis of the veneers of a pair of cabinets supplied by Thomas Chippendale to Peniston Lamb, Ist Viscount Melbourne, c.1772-73, has permitted a digital reconstruction of the original brilliant colours of the woods. It is possible that the cabinets were intended for the display of a Sèvres dessert service ordered by Lors Melbourne in 1771
