A partir del inventario de bienes del primer marqués del Valle de Toxo (1718) se trata el tema de los personajes alados quienes, elegantemente vestidos a la moda de la época y exhibiendo armas de fuego portátiles, se ven en lienzos ubicados en lo alto de las paredes de algunas iglesias andinas. Se resumen y explican el uso y función de tales imágenes, y la dinámica de su invención, ocaso y traslado al mercado de arte en el noroeste argentino.
From the goods inventory of the first Marquis of Valle de Toxo (1718), the theme of the winged characters is discussed, who, elegantly dressed in the fashion of the time and displaying portable firearms, are seen on canvases located at the top of the walls of some Andean churches. The use and function of such images, and the dynamics of their invention, decline, and transfer to the art market in northwest Argentina are summarized and explained.
