    Durante más de 100 años, el artículo 18 de la Constitución Mexicana ha regido la vida en las cárceles nacionales, teniendo como máximas el trabajo y la educación para alcanzar la reinserción social en las personas privadas de su libertad. En años recientes, se han sumado a dichas máximas, la salud, el deporte y el respeto a los derechos humanos. En ese marco se han llevado a cabo distintas iniciativas en pos de lograr la reintegración a la sociedad, de las personas que han delinquido. Muchas de estas iniciativas son encabezadas por distintas asociaciones civiles, colectivos, organizaciones no gubernamentales, entre otras. Dentro de las actividades impulsadas, se encuentra el teatro penitenciario, actividad que será analizada en estas líneas como fenómeno social mediante un acercamiento al sistema penitenciario mexicano, para identificar los desafíos en términos de convivencia y desigualdad.

    Through this essay , of an essayistic nature , I focus on the book Ausência , by photographer Nana Moraes , from the field of Memories and For over 100 years article 18 of the Mexican constitution has dictated life in Mexican prisons . Traditionally, work and education were the focus to achieve what has been deemed re - entry into society by those deprived of their freedom . Yet in recent years other priorities have been added to these such as , health , sports and respect for universal human rights . Under this framework diferent initiatives such as ngo's, non profit organizations, and civil associations have taken the lead in hopes of benefiting the re-entry into society of those imprisoned. An example of these activities is penitentiary theater which has been analyzed in this context as a social phenomenon in its approach to the Mexican penitentiary system to highlight challenges in terms of inequality and coexistence.
