Resumen de O artista, a obra e seus caminhos: Pinho e a experiência de confinamento

This article aims to comprehend the life and work of the painter Pinho. José Joaquim de Almeida, known as Pinho, painted his childhood under reformatories in Portugal between the 1930s and 1940s. The 20 paintings that make up the exhibition “The destiny of the street boy” are safeguarded in the Nucleus of the Directorate-General of Reinsertion and Prison Services’ Museum in Lisbon. In this article we analyze the painter’s trajectory, the effects of expressionism in his work and the visibility that his artwork gained after the investigation that helped to reassemble the history portrayed in the paintings.

O presente artigo trata da vida e obra do pintor Pinho. José Joaquim de Almeida, de codinome Pinho, pintou a infância vivida em reformatórios portugueses entre as décadas de 1930 e 1940. Os 20 quadros que compõem a exposição “O destino do rapaz da rua” encontram-se salvaguardados no Núcleo Museológico da Direção-Geral de Reinserção e Serviços Prisionais de Lisboa. Neste texto tratamos da trajetória do pintor, dos efeitos do expressionismo em sua obra e da visibilidade conferida a mesma a partir da investigação que ajudou a compreender a história por trás dos quadros.
