Linking Big Five Personality Traits with Laboratory Safety Attitude among Freshmen of Chemistry-Related Majors

    • This study uses questionnaire to investigate the Big Five personality traits and laboratory safety attitude among 393 freshmen of chemistry-related majors. The difference in subgroups is also investigated. The results show that the freshmen have relatively good laboratory safety attitude and tendency of conscientiousness, agreeableness, and openness. There is a significant difference between males and females in neuroticism and safety attitudes. In addition, there are weak correlations between conscientiousness, agreeableness, openness, extraversion, and laboratory safety attitude. There is no correlation between neuroticism and safety attitude. This study is expected to provide data support for understanding laboratory safety attitude of freshmen.
