Resumen de Estudio preliminar sobre Fasciola hepatica en Costa Rica

Se comentan algunos trabajos realizados en nuestro país sobre F. hepatica. Se refiere el hallazgo por primera vez en Costa Rica del huésped initermediario naturalmente infectado con formas larvales del parásito: Lymnaea (Pseudosuccinea) columella Sayo Se reatizó parte del cielo biológico experimental de este parásito, al infectar por vía oral conejos con metacercarias, y obtener formas adultas a los tres meses en los conductos biliares. Finalmente, se efectuaron 82 intradermorreaccÍones en los habitantes de la región de Grano de Oro, Moravia de Chirripó, con antígeno total de F. hepatica, obteniendo un 57 % de positividad.

The literature on Fasciola hepatica in Costa Rica is briefly reviewed. The first report of an intermediate host in this country is made: Lymnaea (PIeudosuccinaea) columella Say, found showing heavy natural infestation in Grano de Oro, Moravia de Chirripó, Cartago. Part of the life cycle was experimentatIy observed, infecting rabbits oratIy with melacercariae and finding adult trematodes in their bite ducts three months later. Human inhabitants of the same district were tested with total F. hepatica antigen; out of 82 tests, 47(57%) gave positive reactions.
