    Like other novellas of the day, x 6 also hides a dark background under the idealizing emphasis. Here the unexpected senile falling in love of Charles of Anjou casts a shadow of violence and injustice on the Decameronian myth of love, which obscures the courtly idyll of the great garden scene. The story focuses on the metamorphosis and the king’s inner conflict between the temptation of eros and the call of moral and political responsibility; a conflict that fills the gestures, albeit ordinary, of the protagonist with a secret drama.

    Come altre novelle della giornata, anche la x 6 nasconde sotto l’enfasi idealizzante un sottofondo oscuro. Qui l’inopinato innamoramento senile di Carlo d’Angiò proietta sul mito decameroniano dell’amore un’ombra di violenza e ingiustizia, che offusca l’idillio cortese della grande scena del giardino. Il racconto si incentra sulla metamorfosi e sul conflitto interiore del re tra tentazione dell’eros e richiamo della responsabilità morale e politica; un conflitto che carica di una segreta drammaticità i gesti, pur ordinari, del protagonista.
