Resumen de De cidade à metropole

  A cidade é uma formação transhistórica, a metrópole não. O processo de constituição da metrópole contemporânea ocorre desarticulando formações pretéritas tanto de cidades como de subúrbios. Na sua materialidade a metrópole é a síntese mais complexa da conexão espaço-tempo porque no seu processo de formação o tempo ganhou um fundamento social, regido pela lógica da reprodução capitalista, a qual implica no aprofundamento da divisão do trabalho e da generalização da economia de trocas. Portanto, as separações discutidas como segregação sócio-espacial são imanentes a esse processo. O argumento principal é o de que é possível estudar a metrópole analiticamente no movimento próprio de sua formação a partir do problema colhido, supostamente situado na metamorfose da cidade, no decurso do tempo histórico. Metodologicamente, seguindo a trilha aberta por Henri Lefebvre, trata-se de operar a regressão genética e a progressão analítica, mobilizando as categorias que possam circunscrever o problema colhido.

  The city is a transhistorical formation, while the metropolis isn’t. The constitution of the contemporary metropolis has occurred through the dissolution of previous city and suburban formations. In its materiality, the metropolis is the most complex synthesis of the space-time nexus because, as it emerged, time has acquired a social foundation ordered by the logic of capitalist reproduction, which has brought about an intensification of the division of labor and the expansion of the exchangeeconomy. Thus the separations that give rise to socio-spatial segregation are inherent elements in this process. The key argument here is that it is possible to analytically study the metropolis, in its process of formation, from the point of view of theselected object of study, supposedly related to the metamorphosis of the city over history. In methodological terms, following in Henri Lefebvre’s footsteps, it is about making use of genetic regression and analytic progression, thus mobilizing the categories suitable for defining the chosen problem.
