The linguistic reality of São Tomé (and, to less extent, of Príncipe)is that of a small island territory in which communities coexistthat, except for literate, do not share a language: the Angolars,the Tongas, the Cape Verdean community (with its insular varietyof Cape Verdean Creole) and the forros (the community thatspeaks the Portuguese-based Sao Tome Creole), in addition to thebilingual and monolingual communities that speak a Sao TomePortuguese not accepted as standard Portuguese.
