    Este artículo introduce problemas teóricos relacionados con la noción de cultura plebeya, en perspectiva transnacional, para reconstruir históricamente el desarro-llo de músicas regionales entre 1880 y 1920. En detalle, la zamacueca y dos de sus géneros derivados, la cueca chilena y la marinera limeña, fenómenos de alcance continental implicados en procesos de nacionalización y modernización estructu-ral y del campo musical. Todo esto, con el fin de ofrecer una historia binacional y comparativa, a partir específicamente de su presencia en cancioneros peruanos y chilenos hacia fines del siglo XIX y el primer tercio del XX

    This article introduces theoretical issues related to the notion of plebeian culture from a transnational perspective, to historically reconstruct the development of regional musics between 1880 and 1920. It focuses particularly on the zamacue-ca and two of its derivative genres, the Chilean cueca and the Limean marinera, phenomena of a continent-wide impact that were involved in processes of natio-nalization and structural modernization within the musical field. All this, with the goal of offering a binational and comparative history, specifically based on their presence in Peruvian and Chilean songbooks towards the end of the 19th century and the first third of the 20th century
