  • Resumen
    • The chapter analyzes participatory modes of urban governance in some Latin America and Caribbean metropolises. It contextualizes each country in relation to the process of re-democratization with the presence of social movements. The analysis covers the construction of participatory and deliberative experiments in the form of public action for the management of territory, such as intermunicipal consortia and the institutionalization of metropolitan regions and subprefectures, along with decision-making processes, such as the institutionalization of participation councils, concertation tables and also participatory budgeting. The chapter draws lessons from the analysis of the effectiveness and legitimacy of the use of these instruments in urban governance.
