    El presente estudio tuvo como propósito investigar y analizar las historias de las Escuelas Laboratorio (EL) de la Facultad de Educación Eugenio María de Hostos de la Universidad de Puerto Rico, Recinto de Río Piedras (UPRRP). Las cinco instituciones académicas son: la Escuela Elemental, la Escuela Secundaria, la Escuela Maternal, el Centro de Desarrollo Preescolar, y el Laboratorio de Infantes y Maternales. Se estudiaron los orígenes, fundamentos y propósitos para su creación. El trabajo fue de naturaleza cualitativa e integró como diseño el estudio histórico. Se hizo una revisión de informes anuales y de fuentes documentales históricas localizados en el Archivo Central de la UPRRP. Además, se realizaron grupos focales con directores y profesores de dichas escuelas. Los hallazgos responden a las preguntas de investigación que se refieren a la descripción de los orígenes de las EL y su asociación con la misión de la Universidad.

    The purpose of this study was to investigate and analyze the histories of the Laboratory Schools (EL) of the College of Education Eugenio María de Hostos of the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras Campus (UPRRP). The five academic institutions are: the Elementary School, the Secondary School, the Nursery School, the Preschool Development Center, and the Infant and Maternity Laboratory. The origins, foundations and purposes for its creation were studied. The work was qualitative in nature and used the historical study as a design. A review of annual reports and historical documentary sources located in the Central Archive of the UPRRP was carried out. Finally, focus groups were conducted with principals and teachers from these schools. The findings relate to the research questions that refer to the description of the origins of the ELs and how they respond to the University’s mission.
