In 1737 the Ferrarese painter Giuseppe Antonio Ghedini was commissioned by the Venetian publisher Francesco Pitteri to illustrate Niccolò Forteguerri's mock-heroic epic poem 'Il Ricciardetto'. An album of the thirty-one lively pen and ink drawings that Ghedini made for translation into engravings by Venice's leading printmakers has recently come to light. Unique in the art of Ferrara in the eighteenth century, it demostrates the influence Ghedini received from Bolognese precedents
