El propósito de este estudio fue medir el Nivel de Maltrato Intrafamiliar del Anciano, dado el punto de vista de la percepción del propio anciano, las evidencias objetivas, el riesgo de maltrato; cómo estas dimensiones se relacionan entre sí y con algunas características demográfico-situacionales. Se entrevistó y se valoró a 200 ancianos de 65 o más años de edad de ambos sexos, atendidos en los servicios de salud del Instituto Peruano de Seguridad Social, Trujillo, Perú. Los hallazgos indicaron que casi todos los encuestados presentaron algún nivel de maltrato intrafamiliar en todas las dimensiones, bajo las cuales se estudió el fenómeno. Un tercio de ellos presentaron Nivel Alto de Maltrato Global Intrafamiliar. Los tipos de maltrato más frecuente fueron de Tipo Psicosocial y Material-Financiero. El enfoque que se ha dado a este estudio permite orientar futuras investigaciones en otros grupos de ancianos con características diferentes al grupo estudiado.

The purpose of this study was to measure the level of Intrafamily Mistreatment of the Elderly, from the view of the elderly's own self-perception, objective evidences and mistreatmen risk at home, as well as the ways those dimensions relate among then to certain demographic and situational characteristics. Two hundred people, male and female, ages 65 and older, beneficiaries of the Health Services at Peruvian Social Security Institute in Trujillo, Perú were interviewed an assessed for mistreatment at their own homes. The findings show that almost every individual under study had experienced some degree of Intrafamily Mistreatment in all dimensions covered by this study. One third of them reported high level of Global Intrafamily Mistreatment. The types of mistreatment most commonly encountered were Psychosocial, Material and Financial. The approach adopted in this study allows orientation for future researches on elderly groups presentingcharacteristics other than those handled in the population of this study.
