La infancia en la corte es un tema que ha recibido cada vez mayor atención en el campo de los estudios de corte. La niñez que tuvieron los hijos de los reyes Carlos IV y María Luisa de Parma a fines del siglo XVIII ha recibido poca atención por parte de los historiadores. El objetivo del presente trabajo es dilucidar cómo fue la niñez de los infantes reales a fines del reinado de Carlos III y durante los primeros años del reinado de Carlos IV. Algunas de las cuestiones que se abordan son qué clase de educación recibieron los niños reales, cómo fue su vida cotidiana y qué papel tuvieron en las ceremonias de corte. Finalmente, también se abordan el problema de su mala salud y los fuertes rumores que ocasionó esto en la corte.

Childhood at court is a topic that has received increasing attention in the field of court studies. The infancy of the children of King Carlos IV and Maria Luisa of Parma at the end of the 18th century has received little attention from historians. The objective of this paper is to elucidate what the childhood of the royal infantes was like at the end of the reign of Carlos III and during the first years of the reign of Carlos IV. Some of the questions that are addressed are what kind of education the royal children received, what their daily life was like, and what role they played in court ceremonies. Finally, the problem of their poor health and the strong rumors that this caused at court are also addressed.
