This article discusses the construction of the insurgent thought on the work of Manoel Bomfim, a thinker from Sergipe, in the northeast of Brazil. Upon his discussion of what he claimed as social parasitism, the author analyses the Brazilian society structuring, highlighting issues inherited from the Portuguese colonisation, forgoing the racist repertoire, which was recurring in his contemporaries’ speech. Bomfim criticised the leading elite, as well as the other intellectuals whose knowledge derived only from books and therefore were closed to social phenomena unfolding before their very eyes. According to the thinker from Sergipe, the actual problem was not interpreting foreign authors, but the rude application of theories which were alien to the invariably negative social reality. Abstract explanations and exotic theories blurred Bomfim’s contemporaries’interpretation and stopped them from understanding the actual reasons of retardation, such as the persistence of monoculture and the degrading way the workers were treated with. Este artigo discute a construção social do pensamento insurgente na obra do pensador sergipano Manoel Bomfim. Ao discutir o que denominou parasitismo social, o autor analisa a formação da sociedade brasileira, destacando os problemas herdados da colonização portuguesa, prescindindo do repertório racista, comum no discurso de seus coetâneos. Bomfim teceu duras críticas à elite dirigente e aos intelectuais recheados de conhecimento livresco e avessos aos fenômenos sociais que se desenrolavam diante dos seus olhos. Para o sergipano, o problema não era a leitura de autores estrangeiros, mas a aplicação grosseira de teorias alheias à realidade social que, invariavelmente, eram negativas. As explicações abstratas e teorias exóticas turvavam a visão e impediam que se compreendessem os reais motivos do atraso como, por exemplo, a insistência na monocultura e o tratamento aviltante ao trabalhador. Em sua análise, racismo e parasitismo são indissociáveis, e sob essa chave de leitura se centrará nossa argumentação.
