Resumen de Linguistische Phänomene im sozialen Netzwerk Jodel: Sprachspiele

Stephanie Lisa Pumhösl

  • JODEL, one of the most successful German applications, allows users within a distance of 10 kilometres to communicate with each other anonymously online. This paper empirically compiles and analyzes various notifications of this app. It shows recurrent structural, lexical and graphical markers of the language used online and investigates their communicative functions with regard to a possible ‘group-language’. Results indicate a highly productive and creative way of language use; coining and spreading new lexemes and phrases. JODEL also displays broad variations of well-known text patterns as well as a multifunctional graphical marker: the hashtag.
