El desarrollo de mundos virtuales, entornos digitales inmersivos, persistentes y compartidos en paralelo a los rápidos avances tecnológicos han empezado a producir espacios en línea obsoletos y abandonados. Nos referimos a estos entornos como ruinas digitales. En este capítulo caracterizamos estos restos del capitalismo como lugares en los que sus usuarios configuran su identidad, en los que se desarrolla una memoria colectiva y con los que se establecen emociones y vínculos. Ante su fragilidad reivindicamos la necesidad de conservarlos, reactivándolos a través de intervenciones múltiples e interdisciplinares desde la creatividad, su estudio y puesta en valor y su apropiación por parte de sus usuarios.

The development of virtual worlds, understood as immersive, persistent and shared digital environments, in parallel with rapid technological advances have begun to produce online obsolete and abandoned spaces. We refer to these environments as digital ruins. In this chapter we will characterize these remnants of capitalism as spaces which contribute to shape their users' identity, where a collective memory develops and with which emotions and bonds are established. Given their fragility, we claim the need to conserve them, reactivating them through multiple and interdisciplinary interventions from creativity, their study and valorization, and their appropriation by their users.
