El capítulo se centra en los paisajes de las franges, concretamente en los paisajes de los descampados y la ruinas, y se pregunta cómo interpretarlos, cartografiarlos e intervenir en ellos. Trabajar con el paisaje significa no solo observarlo y entenderlo, sino también representarlo cartográficamente, asumiendo que representar una realidad tan compleja como el paisaje no es tan fácil como parece, y menos en estos lugares. Preguntarse qué hacer hoy con las ruinas y los descampados nos invita, más allá de ocuparnos de su calidad formal y estética, a reflexionar sobre qué rol pueden jugar algunos de los desafíos del mundo actual, como la emergencia climática, la seguridad alimentaria, la transición energética, la pérdida de biodiversidad, o el bienestar y la salud. Son espacios de oportunidad para poner en práctica iniciativas e intervenciones imaginativas y creativas a través de proyectos participados e integrados.

The chapter focuses on the landscapes of the fringes, specifically on the landscapes of wastelands and ruins, and asks how to interpret them, map them and intervene in them. Working with the landscape means not only observing and understanding it, but also representing it cartographically, assuming that representing a reality as complex as the landscape is not as easy as it seems, especially in those places. Asking what to do today with the ruins and the wastelands invites us, beyond taking care of their formal and aesthetic quality, to reflect on what role they can play in some of the challenges of the world today, such as the climate emergency, food security, energy transition, the loss of biodiversity, or well-being and health. They are spaces of opportunity to implement initiatives and imaginative and creative interventions through participatory and integrated projects.
