El presente ensayo aborda la dimensión estética de las ruinas en la obra del historiador del arte Ángel González García. Aunque debemos anunciar, ya de primeras, que no es el gran tema de la obra del autor burgalés, centrado, como sabemos, en los márgenes del arte, sus constantes referencias al tema en su obra obligan a una reflexión clarificadora sobre su peculiar concepción de las ruinas. Lo que sigue se centra en el diálogo mantenido entre ruina y sublimidad, así como en su superación estética a través de la noción de hibris. Los coqueteos perversos de los ruinoso con la llamada «maldad del tiempo» activan el recreo melancólico y anticuario de esa ruina que para Ángel González García nace hibridada, a medio camino entre lo natural y artificioso.

This essay deals with the aesthetic dimension of the ruins in art historian Ángel González García’s work. Although we must warn that this is not the main theme of the González’s work, focused on the margins of art, the constant references to this theme in his work force us to reflect on his peculiar conception of ruins. This text is focus on the dialogue between ruin and sublimity, as well as on its aesthetic overcoming through the notion of hibris. The perverse flirtations of the ruinous with the so-called «evil of time» activate the melancholic and antiquarian recreation of the ruin which for Ángel González García is born hybridised, halfway between the natural and the artificial.
