    Las divisiones político administrativas territoriales de un país o un estado regional, son el resultado de varios elementos. El crecimiento poblacional y contar con actividades económicas que generen ingresos que hagan posible sustentar ese territorio a conformar, son factores que justifican la creación de procesos de ordenamiento territorial como se ha hecho con los distritos, parroquias, municipios, provincias o estados. A ello se unen también intereses militares, políticos, electorales, sociales y económicos que permiten el control sobre algunos espacios claves y el aumento de funcionarios públicos, entre otros aspectos. Este trabajo tiene como finalidad dar a conocer los orígenes de lo que constituye el actual municipio Palavecino del estado Lara, Venezuela, y las diferentes denominaciones, que ha recibido a lo largo del tiempo. De igual manera, se abordan las diferentes modificaciones político­ territoriales que se han producido en esta localidad después de la segunda mitad del siglo XX y en las primeras dos décadas del siglo XXI.

    The political and administrative territorial divisions of a country or a regional state are the result of several elements. Population growth and the existence ofeconomic activities that generate income to sustain the territory to be created are factors that justify the creation of land­use planning processes, as has been done with districts, parishes, municipalities, provinces or states. In addition, there are military, political, electoral, social and economic interests that allow control over some key areas and the increase in the number of public officials, among other aspects. The purpose of this work is to show the origins of the present Palavecino municipality in the state of Lara, Venezuela, and the different denominations it has received over time. Likewise, the different political­ territorial modifications that have taken place in this locality after the second half of the 20th century and in the first two decades of the 21st century are also discussed.
