Chemical kinetics is a challenging topic in high school and tertiary schools. Students often have misconceptions about almost every aspect, including the relationship between particle size and collision theory. This paper introduces a hands-on learning activity using reactant-infused agar gel to learn about the reaction process and the relationship of the particle size with the reaction rate. Through an inquiry approach, students gain knowledge of the chemical process and develop essential science process skills such as designing experiments and manipulating variables, which can be applied beyond the classroom setting. By utilizing the colored agar cube to represent the solid reactants, students found this activity attractive and distinct from the other experiments they had encountered.
