  Este artículo busca ofrecer una visión panorámica sobre la evolución de las relaciones económicas internacionales desde el inicio de la Revolución Industrial hasta el presente. Frente a una etapa histórica presidida por la conquista del espacio (siglos XVI a XVIII), la nueva etapa aprovecha las ventajas que aporta la Revolución Industrial en producción y distribución masiva, buscando una comunicación lo más rápida y cómoda posible estableciendo un espacio bien bajo forma de colonialismo (que implica ocupación territorial) o bien en forma de imperialismo (control de los recursos materiales y estructuras políticas de países ajenos). La evolución de este proceso desembocará en la Segunda Revolución Industrial (1870-1970), cuyo efecto más importante es el fenómeno de la globalización, o relación abierta y mucho más intensa que antes entre economías y bloques económicos. El resultado es un vínculo entre espacio y tiempo desconocido hasta entonces en la Historia.

  This paper develops an overview of the evolution of international economic relations from the beginning of the Industrial Revolution to the present. Faced with a historical stage presided over by the conquest of space (sixteenth to eighteenth centuries), the new stage aims to take advantage of the advantages provided by the Industrial Revolution in mass production and distribution, seeking communication as fast and comfortable as possible by establishing a space either in the form of colonialism (which implies territorial occupation) or in the form of imperialism (control of material resources and political structures of foreign countries). The evolution of this process will lead to the Second Industrial Revolution (1870-1970), whose most important effect is the phenomenon of globalization, or open and much more intense relationship than before between economies and economic blocs. The result is a link between space and time hitherto unknown in History.
