La cyclostyle, discreta catalizadora de una era

    En La Taller-Erredakzioa hemos recuperado varias máquinas de reproducción mecánica de tecnología obsoleta para creaciones plásticas y textuales contemporáneas. Cuando en 2016 creamos Erredakzioa como spin off de La Taller y publicamos el primer número de la revista Minerva-El reportaje ilustrado-Errepotaje ilustratua, nos dejamos guiar por la estela que habían dejado las revistas ilustradas del siglo XIX, los reportajes periodísticos que nos informan, ilustran y entretienen, y la concepción que sobre el trabajo tenía William Morris. Sin embargo, desconocíamos estar siguiendo los principios de Theodor W. Adorno al haber sido seducidas por el mimeógrafo/cyclostyle, su máquina de reproducción predilecta para hacer frente a la cultura de masas. Seis años después, con la compra de una Gestetner Rotary Cyclostyle número 6, las palabras de Adorno han llegado a nosotras con fuerza. Hoy, cuando incluso los medios de comunicación de masas parecen haber quedado obsoletos frente a las omnipresentes y omnipotentes redes sociales, recuperar tecnologías, oficios, maneras y tiempos de trabajar pretéritos parece liberarnos, un poquito, de la dictadura de la velocidad de la luz. Donna Haraway (2016), en el Manifiesto Cyborg, avisaba de que las tecnologías guardan momentos congelados en el tiempo. La puesta a punto de la máquina y esta investigación en la que procuramos su contextualización nos ha llevado a la primera mitad del siglo XX, a la explosión capitalista y al pensamiento y práctica de resistencia en su contra.

    In La Taller-Erredakzioa we have recovered several old mechanical reproduction machines. These machines present obsolete technologies that we use in contemporary artistic and textual creations. In 2016 when we created Erredakzioa as a spin-off of La Taller and published the first issue of the illustrated magazine Minerva-El reportaje ilustrado-Errepotaje ilustratua, we were guided by the trail left by the illustrated magazines of the 19th century, the journalistic reports, and the idea that William Morris had of labor. At that time, we were not aware that we were following the ideas of Theodor W. Adorno, when the mimeograph/cyclostyle, his favorite reproduction machine for confronting mass culture, captivated us. Six years later, with the purchase of a Gestetner Rotary Cyclostyle number 6, Adorno’s words have hit home. Today, when even the traditional mass media seem to have become obsolete in the face of the omnipresent and omnipotent social networks, recovering past technologies, trades, ways, and working processes seems to free us, just a little, from the dictatorship of the speed of light. Donna Haraway (2016), in the Cyborg Manifesto, pointed out that technologies keep moments frozen in time. Refurbishing the machine and our research has taken us back to the first half of the twentieth century, when the capitalist explosion happened and people like Theodor W. Adorno wrote the principles that we are now recovering through the use of this machine.

    La Taller-Erredakzioa galerian teknologia zaharkituko erreprodukzio mekanikoko hainbat makina berreskuratu ditugu, sorkuntza plastiko eta testu-sorkuntzarako. 2016an, La Tallerren spin off gisa Erredakzioa sortu genuenean eta Minerva-El reportaje ilustrado-Errepotaje ilustratua aldizkariaren lehen zenbakia argitaratzean, XIX. mendeko aldizkari ilustratuek utzitako arrastoari eta William Morrisek lanari buruz zuen ikuskerari jarraitu genion.
