    Este articulo representa un acercamiento inicial a cómo los movimientos sociales venezolanos caracterizaron la coyuntura histórica que atravesaron durante la última década del siglo pasado. Para ello tomamos como objeto de estudio a "Referencias", la prensa escrita del primer organismo de derechos humanos del país, donde nos planteamos investigar de qué manera interpretaron la protesta social y cómo definieron la violencia institucional del Caracazo, que fue la masacre más representativa del siglo XX.

    This article represents an initial approach to how Venezuelan social movements characterized the historical conjuncture they went through during the last decade of the last century. For this we take as object of study to "References", the written press of the first human rights body of the country, where we consider investigating how they interpreted the social protest and how they defined the institutional violence of the Caracazo, which was the most representative massacre of the twentieth century.
