Mariana Politti, Gisela Isabel Delfino

This research studies the attitudes that young people have towards the role of formal education in the lives of people deprived of liberty. The objective was to obtain information about how university students characterize people deprived of liberty, as well as the importance they attach to the role of formal education, both as a preventive factor and as a rehabilitation factor. The Scale of Attitudes towards Persons Deprived of Liberty, adapted to the Argentine population (Bombelli et al., 2011), was applied for subsequent analysis in the SPSS database, in a population of 200 university students from the metropolitan area of Buenos Aires with ages between 18 and 30 years, with the same proportion of men and women. It was found that students, in general, have a positive attitude of medium intensity regarding the subject, highlighting the importance of compliance with the right to education for all people, whether or not they are deprived of their freedom. In addition, respondents believe that education is not only a factor that favors reintegration but is also a preventive factor that works as a way to reduce the situation of social, cultural and psychological vulnerability that has led them to transgress the law in first place. The importance of educating future professionals on sensitive issues is emphasized, since they will be the ones who will be able to work to create true social change.
