Resumen de Is urban gardening a source of wellbeing and just freedom?: A Capability Approach based analysis from the UK and Ireland

Alma Clavin

  • Individuals attach different meanings, values and derive different wellbeing benefits from their environment. Alkire (2008 ) states that in addition to individual action, the process of improving human wellbeing often requires sustained, collective action of people. The neoliberalisation of urban governance may, however, limit opportunities for individual and collective freedoms in urban areas (Harvey, 1990 ). As wellbeing goals may be individually, socially and politically influenced, so too are the values and reasoning behind why individuals become involved in urban gardening activities.
