Resumen de Erasmo in Borges, Borges in Erasmo: primi rilievi di una genealogia inesplorata

Sembrerebbe impossibile trovare ambiti del corpus borgesiano in cui studiosi di ogni latitudine e periodo non abbiano esercitato le loro abilità, ma in realtà ciò succede riguardo alla presenza dell’umanista olandese Erasmo da Rotterdam. Partendo da somiglianze di contenuto e di stile tra Elogio della follia di Erasmo e alcune prose narrative, saggistiche e poesie di Borges, nonché, al contrario, da otto ricorrenze di Erasmo in sette saggi brevi di Borges, questo articolo mira a far emergere questa relazione letteraria. Questo pionieristico benché certamente non esaustivo lavoro permette anche di dissotterrare un’ampia e inattesa rete di autori che collegano i due tra i secoli e i continenti.

It seems impossible to identify areas of the Borgesian corpus that have not been studied by experts from all latitudes and periods, but in fact this is true in relation to the presence of the Dutch humanist Erasmus of Rotterdam. Taking as a starting point similarities in content and style between Erasmus’ The Praise of Folly and some of Borges’ narrative prose, essays and poems, as well as, conversely, from eight occurrences of Erasmus in seven of Borges’ short essays, this article aims to stress this literary relationship. This pioneering though certainly not exhaustive study also unearths a wide and unexpected network of authors linking Erasmo and Borges across centuries and continents.
