Resumen de Inmigrantes trentinos en Bahía Blanca entre 1880 y 1918

Procedentes de un territorio marginal del Imperio austríaco, el Sudtirol, pero hablantes de lengua italiana, los inmigrantes trentinos llegados a la zona de Bahía Blanca entre 1880 y 1914 suelen pasar inadvertidos en el fárrago de datos y de estudios referidos a esa primera ola inmigratoria, confundidos entre italianos, alemanes y croatas. Revisar qué significado concreto tuvieron en aquel momento algunos conceptos clave como los de “nación”, “patria” y “comunidad lingüística” nos permite poner en cuestión los mecanismos de producción de identidades y de lazos de solidaridad que muchas veces damos por supuestos. En este trabajo nos proponemos rastrear la presencia de inmigrantes trentinos en la región, y analizar el alcance y los límites de las redes de vínculos entre ellos (laborales, matrimoniales, afectivos), sus variadas estrategias de asimilación (o resistencia) en instituciones locales, el rol del Estado austríaco respecto de sus emigrados, y el del Estado italiano después de la incorporación del Trentino a su territorio.

Immigrants from Trentino, —namely, South Tyrol—, a marginal territory of the Austrian Empire, but Italian-speaking, arrived in Bahía Blanca area between 1880 and 1914. They usually go unnoticed in the mass of data and studies concerning the first wave of immigration in Argentina, confused between Italians, Germans and Croats. Reviewing the specific meaning of some key concepts such as “nation”, “homeland” and “linguistic community” at that time, allows us to question the mechanisms of production of identities and bonds of solidarity that we often take for granted. In this paper, we intend to trace the presence of Trentino immigrants in the region, and to analyze the scope and limits of the networks of links between them (labour, marriage, affective). Also, their various strategies of assimilation (or resistance) in local institutions, the role of the Austrian state with respect to its emigrants and that of the Italian state after the incorporation of Trentino to its territory.
