Alegría y fuerza para los santos. Las ofrendas dulces entre los otomíes del sur de Querétaro

    En la comunidad otomí de San Ildefonso Tultepec “lo dulce” tiene un lugar significativo en el ámbito ritual. Para la fiesta en honor al Niño Dios, se ofrenda una figura de azúcar en forma de toro. Refrescos, dulces y frituras de origen industrial son usadas para confeccionar las “cuelgas” y la “Flor de Dios”, dos ofrendas que están presentes en la mayoría de las celebraciones del calendario festivo. En este texto me centraré en estas tres ofrendas (las cuelgas, la Flor de Dios y el torito de azúcar) que, para fines analíticos, llamaré “ofrendas dulces”. Analizo los sentidos del azúcar y de lo “dulce” para los otomíes del sur de Querétaro, a partir del análisis de la “red de relaciones” (Lévi-Strauss, 1995) que se observan en el espacio ritual, es decir, profundizo en las relaciones -asociaciones, correlaciones, sustituciones- que se construyen entre lo dulce y los distintos elementos del sistema ritual, para elucidar dichos sentidos.

    In the otomi community of San Ildefonso Tultepec “the sweet (or sugary food)” has a very meaningful place within the ritual field. For the celebration to the Niño Dios (Holy Child), it is offered a sugar figure with a form of a bull. Sodas, candies and industrial stir-fry food such as potato chips are used to make the “Cuelgas” and the “Flor the Dios” offerings, which are present among the majority of this otomi festive calendar celebrations. In this text I focus on this three offering (Las cuelgas, la Flor de Dios and the sugar figure with a form of a bull) that, for analytical purposes will refer as “sweet offerings”. In this paper it is analyzed the feelings, perceptions and senses attached to both the sugar and the “sweet” for the otomies in south Querétaro, through the analysis of “relations networks” (Lévi-Strauss, 1995) observed at this rural scenario, or said otherwise, the relationships-associations, correlations, substitutions that are built among the sweet and more elements of the ritual system, to elucidate such senses deployed among this otomi culture.
