The Mediterranean coastal region of Valencia is configured as the childhood landscape in the production of Rafael Chirbes and concerns both his fiction works (Cremation, On the edgeand other books), as well as the texts that can be assigned to the genre of travel journalism and that were published in Sobremesamagazine. In this article we focus on the reports that have the Valencian Community as a geographical reference point and that finally became an integral part of the volume entitled Mediterráneos(1997). In this way, texts conveyed through a journalistic platform end up being embedded, after applying the appropriate formal adjustments, in an articulated work in which the different sections share a precise editorial purpose: texts that were created in order to encourage travel, become testimonial documents.
