  • The contribution ties in with Joachim Bumke’s research on the ‘Nibelungenklage’. It attempts to make plausible that the ‘Nibelungenlied’ and the ‘Nibelungenklage’ were written as a genuine composite text (‘Nibelungenbuch’) within the framework of a project with which Bishop Wolfger of Passau wanted to provide his diocese with a prestigious heredity. The contribution also examines the significance of orality and writing in the initial phase of transmission.
