El artículo «Carlo Ceschi y la restauración de la iglesia de Santo Stefano Rotondo en Roma» forma parte del proyecto de investigación realizado en Roma, bajo la dirección del profesor Dr. Claudio Varagnoli de la Universidad G.D'Annunzio. Carlo Ceschi, arquitecto, desempeñó un papel destacado en obras de restauración en toda Italia durante el siglo XX, trabajando en las regiones de Liguria, Apulia y Lacio. La iglesia de Santo Stefano Rotondo, construida en el siglo V, está considerada una de las más importantes del periodo paleocristiano, así como uno de los dos monumentos fundamentales de la arquitectura religiosa en Europa y también la obra maestra de la restauración llevada a cabo por el arquitecto. En su importación se valora su influencia oriental y su forma original. El artículo pretende presentar a estos personajes, a Carlo Ceschi y a la Iglesia y, a partir del tema, abordar las principales cuestiones que implicaron la restauración y la comprensión de su valor simbólico.

The article ‘Carlo Ceschi and the Restoration of the Church of Santo Stefano Rotondo in Rome’ is part of the research project carried out in Rome, under the guidance of Professor Dr. Claudio Varagnoli from G.D’Annunzio University. Carlo Ceschi, architect, played a leading role in restoration works throughout Italy during the 20th century, working in the regions of Liguria, Puglia and Lazio. The Church of Santo Stefano Rotondo, built in the 5th century, is considered one of the most important of the Paleo-Christian period, and also one of the two fundamental monuments of religious architecture in Europe and also the masterpiece of restoration carried out by the architect. Its oriental influence and it’s original form are valued in its importation. The article aims to present these characters, Carlo Ceschi and the Church and, based on the theme, address the main issues that involved the restoration and understanding of its symbolic value.
